About the Project
Memorial Park is at the heart of Cupertino - hosting numerous community and civic-focused events. It is the largest and most well-used park in Cupertino. The 22-acre site includes a lawn ideal for family picnics, a gazebo, an amphitheater, a lighted softball field, and six lighted tennis courts. Memorial Park is adjacent to the Cupertino Senior Center, Quinlan Community Center, and Cupertino Sports Center, and the park houses the Cupertino Veterans Memorial which honors local veterans.
The Memorial Park Specific Plan project aims to improve the facility and determine how to best meet the future recreation, community gathering, event, and green space needs of Cupertino. The Parks and Recreation System Master Plan’s vision for the park highlights the expansion of the civic event space and community hub experiences by providing a unifying focus on the surrounding existing City facilities, and by enhancing natural site features. This Plan will enhance Memorial Park’s unique identity, create a sense of place and grow a unique expression of the Park to achieve a balance between the built and natural environments.
The resulting Memorial Park Specific Plan will further the goals and priorities identified in the Parks and Recreation System Master Plan, including:
- Restore and preserve natural habitat
- Maximize shade
- Develop walkways and bikeways that further connectivity
- Provide environments that foster social cohesiveness and diverse activities for all ages and abilities
- Create high-quality recreation experiences
- Provide sustainable facilities, programs, and services that benefit our economic and ecological health
The Park's Specific Plan is developed with input from the Community, Commissions, and the City Council. Our team has reached out via online and in-person meetings to get your feedback and comments.

Looks great for old people and their grandkids. What about fun things for teenagers like a skateboard park or BMX bike pump track?
tpoltron asked 8 months agoThanks! We've polled the public on numerous occasions and that did not rise to the top of the requested amenities. We will do what we can to make sure all ages have something to do at the park though. (Very good comment!)

1) Has study been done on the noise level and sufficient parking with the pickleball/basketball/bocce ball/playground/picnic area all located closed together? 3 pickle ball courts could have 48 players at the same time. 2) Will the noise level affecting the children in the playground sharing the same sports area? and safety concerns?
susanne asked 8 months agoAs part of the design process, noise and parking studies have been done. The final environmental report will include final versions of these studies. The playgrounds, pickleball courts and sports areas will be three different areas of the paark.

Received a postcard inviting me to get engaged, open to Feb 22nd (today is Jan 21). Visited the website and the survey has closed. ? Will the survey reopen? Do you or do you not want community engagement?
jamie asked about 1 year agoApologies - that seems to indicate you didn't receive the postcard in a timely manner (and I did not see these questions either)... we do want community enggement and will continue to work to improve our outreach. I don't see, in the plans, where adequate parking will be compared to the very inadequate parking now for Memorial Park. Will you be allowing free parking at DeAnza College?
MIckey Zalusky asked about 1 year agoThe existing parking conditions will remain, with the addition of a small amount of parking to facilitate large events and ADA/accessible parking. Currently, and in the future, when large events occur, De Anza College parking is used.
