It is the largest and most well-used park in Cupertino. The 22-acre site includes a lawn ideal for family picnics, a gazebo, an amphitheater, a lighted softball field, and six lighted tennis courts. Memorial Park is adjacent to the Cupertino Senior Center, Quinlan Community Center, and Cupertino Sports Center, and the park houses the Cupertino Veterans Memorial which honors local veterans.The City is working on two immediate renovation projects at the park: removal of the ponds, and technical improvements at the amphitheater. The ponds at the site are in the process of being removed - learn more about this project on the <a href="https://www.cupertino.org/our-city/departments/public-works/capital-improvement-program-projects/memorial-park-ponds-repurposing-project">City website</a>. The scope of work at the amphitheater is being defined and will enter the design phase after a public request for qualifications process is initiated. Both projects lead to this planning effort for the future of Memorial Park.The Memorial Park Specific Plan project aims to improve the facility and determine how to best meet the future recreation, community gathering, event, and green space needs of Cupertino. The <a href="https://parksmp.cupertino.org/Library/pdf/Jul20/final.pdf">Parks and Recreation System Master Plan</a>&rsquo;s vision for the park highlights the expansion of the civic event space and community hub experiences by providing a unifying focus on the surrounding existing City facilities, and by enhancing natural site features. This Plan will enhance Memorial Park&rsquo;s unique identity, create a sense of place and grow a unique expression of the Park to achieve a balance between the built and natural environments.The resulting Memorial Park Specific Plan will further the goals and priorities identified in the <a href="https://parksmp.cupertino.org/Library/pdf/Jul20/final.pdf">Parks and Recreation System Master Plan</a>, including:<ul><li>Restore and preserve natural habitat</li><li>Maximize shade</li><li>Develop walkways and bikeways that further connectivity</li><li>Provide environments that foster social cohesiveness and diverse activities for all ages and abilities</li><li>Create high-quality recreation experiences</li><li>Provide sustainable facilities, programs, and services that benefit our economic and ecological health</li></ul>The Park&#39;s Specific Plan will be developed with input from the Community, Commissions, and the City Council. Memorial Park Specific Plan 

The City of Cupertino is researching current trends and issues about the local economy, and as part of this effort we are looking for input from local businesses and members of the community. Economic Development Research Survey

The City of Cupertino is currently considering a name change for the Fine Arts Commission. This Fiscal Year 2021-2022 city work program item hopes a name change will broaden the reach of potential interest and align with the commission goals. At the January 24 Fine Arts Commission Meeting, art commission names were reviewed for 13 Santa Clara County cities&ndash;the commission then put forward two options for the name change, 1) Arts and Culture Commission and 2) Culture, Visual, and Performing Arts Commission. At the March 28 meeting, commissioners approved the survey for public input.The City is collecting community input now through Friday, May 13, about this potential name change. Fine Arts Commission Name Change Survey

For Fiscal Year (FY) 2021-22, the City Work Program includes an item titled &ldquo;Senior Strategy&rdquo; with a stated objective to address the needs of seniors in collaboration with the City Council and Commissions. Needs to address include technology resources, housing, food supply, transportation, and mental and physical health and wellbeing.In and around the City of Cupertino, there are a variety of organizations and programs that help address needs relating to each of these categories. A survey was developed to determine seniors&rsquo; awareness of existing available resources. The survey was launched in October of 2021 and closed in December of 2021 and received 459 responses.The compiled survey data and analysis can be viewed <a href="https://www.cupertino.org/home/showdocument?id=31051&t=637876899962820844" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">here</a>.Why this is important:<ul type="disc"><li>The senior population is growing &ndash; there is a 140% increase of persons 65+ in the Bay Area expected from 2010 to 2040.</li><li>The growing senior population needs a variety of services and resources to support the aging process.</li></ul>

Senior Resource Availability Survey

The City of Cupertino is moving forward with the design and construction of an All-Inclusive Playground at Jollyman Park funded through Santa Clara County All-Inclusive Playground Grant (AIPG) program. In October 2018, City Council authorized staff to submit an application to the County&rsquo;s AIPG grant program, requesting funds for an all-inclusive playground at Jollyman Park. The Board of Supervisors authorized a grant award to Cupertino for $1,448,201 with a City match contribution. The balance of the project cost would be provided through fundraising and donations. The City of Cupertino conducted a Feasibility Study on potential park sites and thoroughly evaluated each one. Results were presented to the Parks and Recreation Commission and concluded that Jollyman Park was the 1st choice. The Commission endorsed this finding.Based on the feasibility study recommendations, the City proposes building a quality all-inclusive playground at Jollyman Park. It is an inviting space with a green lawn, a looped pathway system, and beautiful large trees imparting a serene quality. The playground will provide about 0.85 acre in core play area plus a landscaped buffer area at its edges. The new playground will be conveniently located along the Stelling Road frontage, immediately adjacent to the existing parking lot area.The project aims to incorporate the best supportive play theories and practices to appeal to people of all ages and abilities. The design will support recreation and social interaction for people with autism, sensory challenges, cognitive, developmental, and physical disabilities, and those without special needs. All-Inclusive Playground at Jollyman Park

Blackberry Farm Golf Course was constructed in 1962 and was privately owned until 1991, when the City of Cupertino purchased the property. The City has operated the golf course since that time. It is a 1,544 yard, 9-hole, par-29 course and lies within the Stevens Creek Corridor. For several years, portions of the course have needed repairs and improvements, including extensive improvements to the irrigation system.In 2014, the City began working on a new Master Plan for the Stevens Creek Corridor (SCCMP). Its goal was to create an updated vision and plan for the public lands along Stevens Creek, from McClellan Road northward to Stevens Creek Boulevard. Among the sites addressed by this Master Plan was the Blackberry Farm Golf Course. City Council reviewed several options for the creek corridor in addition to a report regarding the Blackberry Farm Golf Course, prepared by National Golf Foundation (NGF) Consulting. In 2016, a feasibility study for a draft preferred alternative for the golf course was presented to the City Council. The City Council chose not to take any action at that time, and the Stevens Creek Corridor Master Plan was put on hold until the completion of the Parks and Recreation System Master Plan. The Parks and Recreation System Master Plan (<a href="https://parksmp.cupertino.org/Library/pdf/Jul20/final.pdf">found here</a><a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://parksmp.cupertino.org/Library/pdf/Jul20/final.pdf" target="_blank"></a>) was completed and adopted on February 18, 2020.In May 2021, the City Council included a needs assessment to identify options for short and long-term improvements for the golf course in the Fiscal Year 2021-2022 City Work Program. In June 2021, City Council further directs staff to study 1) conducting necessary repairs and minor improvements to the golf course and 2) discontinuing the use of the site as a golf course and restoring the site to natural habitat and trails.The City has moved into the community input phase and is looking for community members to share their feedback on the preferred future use of the Blackberry Farm Golf Course site. <img src="https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/ehq-production-us-california/092433f6aff3bd05a0eec30c77635cdc780c19c9/original/1643219777/63e756efe4b0e24bd8ca546314490cc8_BBF_Map.jpg?1643219777" class="fr-fic fr-dib" style="width: 712px;">

Blackberry Farm Golf Course Feasibility Study

The City of Cupertino&#39;s Work Program guides some of the major efforts of the City for the upcoming fiscal year. The City Work Program ensures that staff efforts are aligned with the goals set by the Mayor and City Council, and thus, the community. The City Work Program includes Council priorities beyond day to day items the City is already working on. In the past, the goals have been discussed early in the year and then the City Work Program is finalized by May, just before the final budget is adopted in June. This approach keeps the City transparent and holds us accountable to focusing resources on strategies that best serve our community&rsquo;s needs and aspirations.The City reached out to ask our community members what goals the City Council should consider for the Fiscal Year 2022-2023 City Work Program. The survey has now closed and results can be viewed <a class="external" href="https://cupertino.legistar.com/View.ashx?M=F&ID=10573147&GUID=7305F23A-A988-4697-995C-0E19051794B9" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">here.</a> They were presented to the City Council for consideration on March 8.
